Like Christmas morning

Nevermind that I was up at 4:45 in the morning yesterday because one of the dogs decided it was a great time to be awake.

Or that I was out of the house to my job by 7 am, and didn't get home from my second (teaching) job until 7:30 pm.

Though it was dark when I got home, three boxes of plants had arrived! I scarfed down some dinner and set to unpacking them outside.

Thank goodness I wrote down where each one should go when I was ordering them. My addled brain didn't even remember most of what I ordered, let alone what I intended for them. But with this big purchase of close to twenty plants, I'm trying to introduce more variegation, height, textured foliage, and colored stems in my garden.

Get the shovels ready! I'm going to be digging all weekend!

Have you made any fall purchases to help improve your garden next year?

  1. Fun!! I'm going to the semi-annual native plant sale at our Nature Center this weekend. I'm planning on stocking up too!

  2. Where'd you buy your plants? I've bought plants, too, only to forget where they're going when they arrive. I keep a document on my desktop full of m y notes to remind me. I'm putting in a big order for Lazy S's and Niche next week. What did you order? Also, what do you teach? I teach sixth grade science. :o)

    1. I bought 4 plants from Lazy S and the rest from Niche. I don't remember what I bought (it's on my home computer) but I'm going to try to make a post about it when things go in the ground this weekend. What are you buying? And I teach a grad school course in school counseling. Older students, still some complaining :)

    2. My list keeps changing. :o) But I'm adding a new-to-me campanula, more columbine, salvia koyamae, and scuttelaria, and some corydalis. I might throw a few others in, too.

  3. How exciting! To answer your question, I need to order heavy equipment or maybe agent orange to improve my garden as it's such a mish mash of impulse buys. Instead, I've just ordered spring bulbs to plant next month. Since no backhoe will be showing up soon, I'll just go inside, shut the door, and pretend that everything in the garden is fine.

    1. So I'm not the only one who thinks ignoring the garden will make it realize it needs to improve itself...on its own. If you need help, I'm in the "I'm sick of ignoring and need to organize everything!" phase and am happy to lend my services.

  4. I just received a shipment of twenty plants last week as well! They arrived, and there went the plans I had for the rest of that day! Most of the plants are sun perennials to put in a very new garden, but there were also a few Heuchera, a Solomon's Seal, and an astilbe to help fill in a year-old shade garden.

My rock garden is in dire need of re-organization, thinning, weeding, just attention! I've really been procrastinating on that one--it seems such a big job!

    1. What fun! It's satisfying to get all of the organizing, thinning, etc. done but first you have to get through the hard work.
